Colleague Yvonne Nienhaus died in a traffic accident while on duty on December 27, 2017. Two colleagues were seriously injured. The Dutch police informed the German colleagues that there was a truck on the highway whose driver was obviously drunk. The three colleagues were waiting in their patrol car with blue lights on on the highway in the German part. They were standing on the hard shoulder looking out when the truck suddenly moved from the far left lane onto the hard shoulder and hit the patrol car. The colleague died. The truck driver had more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his blood.
