THE STORY
Circumstances
On May 6, 1924, Sergeant Griffin and his colleague Garda John Murrin investigated a shooting that had occurred the day before. After identifying the suspects, Sergeant Griffin and Garda Murrin proceeded to a house in nearby Killonerry, Co. Kilkenny. Upon arrival, both Gardas were shot and seriously injured. Sergeant Griffin died of his wounds on May 7, 1924.
