THE STORY
Circumstances
On March 26, 2009, Garda Robert McCallion and two other colleagues responded to a call in Tara Court, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal while on duty. While attending to the situation, Garda observed a car approaching at a high rate of speed. Garda McCallion was struck by the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he died from his injuries on April 7, 2009.
