Vladi Špiřík

At around half past five in the morning on November 9, 1992, a police car drove past the Skalka housing estate on the then main and very busy road link from Cheb to the border crossing Pomezí nad Ohří. And just then, his colleague, who was driving, succumbed to the effects of microsleep, and the company vehicle collided head-on with the oncoming truck. While the policeman behind the wheel escaped with serious injuries, Lieutenant Vladimír Špiřík succumbed to severe injuries just a few hours before the end of the shift, but also a few hours before the end of his duty as law enforcement officers, and last tragically entered police history when became the 22nd fallen police officer since 1990.
