Rolando Lanari (27)

He was killed on February 14 in via Prati di Papa in Rome in an ambush carried out by a group of terrorists from the Red Brigades together with his colleague Giuseppe Scravaglieri (ODMP.eu). The agents Lanari and Scravaglieri, together with a third agent, were escorting a security van of the Post Office when, on reaching via Prati di Papa, the van was cut off by a car and was forced to brake abruptly. The steering wheel that proceeded behind the vehicle, according to the service provisions in force at the time, was forced to buffer it, finding itself in a trap. Five brigades opened fire on the agents with 9 caliber pistols and submachine guns, exploding 56 rounds in a few seconds, killing agents Lanari and Scravaglieri and seriously injuring a third agent. The commando of assassins then escaped with a booty of one billion and 150 million lire. The killers were arrested in the following years and sentenced to heavy prison terms.
