Martin Heinze (46)

The colleague was the first police officer in the state of Brandenburg to be killed in police service after reunification. He was stabbed to death by a burglar while on plainclothes patrol on August 20, 1995. After receiving a tip about a burglary, Martin and his colleague wanted to follow up on the tip. While doing so, they noticed a suspicious person on a bicycle that Martin wanted to check out. This was the perpetrator. He stabbed Martin in the heart with a knife! Martin had no chance to survive this attack. The perpetrator was later sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
