THE STORY
Circumstances
The colleague Gerhard Gergau was shot on 15.01.1981 by a person who wanted to flee from the former GDR. The person had stolen an NVA soldier's weapons and ammunition. He tried to hijack a car at gunpoint, but failed. On his way to the airport, where he wanted to hijack an airplane in order to flee to the Federal Republic of Germany, he encountered a radio car occupied by a colleague, Gerhard Gergau, and another colleague. He immediately shot at the radio car, fatally wounding his colleague. The other colleague was seriously injured.
