THE STORY
Circumstances
The colleague Werner Schmidt died on 02.03.1951. There are several versions about his death. One is that he was shot by American soldiers when he entered West German territory. The other version states that he was shot on the territory of the former GDR and then taken to West German territory by American soldiers. His patrol comrade Heinz Janello (ODMP.eu) was shot during this incident and died a short time later from his gunshot wounds.
