Jarosław Wasążnik was informed by a passerby that a man with a firearm in his hand was running through one of the streets. The colleague got out of the police car to stop the man. When he got out, he took out his service weapon. When he pointed it at the man and ordered him to stop, saying "Stop, police," the man grabbed a gun and fired three shots at his colleague. The second patrolman was also wounded because he could not successfully intervene due to the jam of his pistol.
