Hugo Strömgren (43)

Hugo Strömgren was shot dead in Krokom, Jämtland, on April 18, 1971, while on duty. A man who had been annoying his neighbor's dog had fired several shots at the neighbor's property with a Mauser rifle. Police were called to the incident. The officers attempted to make contact with the man, but he proved to be unresponsive and threatening. The police then decided to drill the wall of the house and pipe tear gas into the house. As the operation continued, the man fired a shot through the house wall, hitting police officer R. Andersson in the leg. Strömgren and another police officer then began to pull the injured Andersson to safety behind one of the house walls. The man then fired a shot through a window, hitting Strömgren in the back. Strömgren was killed instantly.
