During a traffic control at about 4:20 am, two colleagues of the PI Kusel were shot. Alexander and his young colleague saw a dead animal in the trunk of a vehicle and wanted to check it on suspicion of poaching. Alexander and his young colleague stopped the vehicle and reported this to the control center. A short time later, they reported over the radio that they had been shot at. When reinforcements arrived, they could only find the young colleague dead, shot in the head. Alexander was also shot in the head and succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. The investigation revealed that the colleague could not even draw her weapon. Alexander fired his entire magazine, but that did not help either of them. One of the perpetrators is a butcher from Kusel, who is said to have lost his identity card on the run. A short time later, on the same day, the butcher and another suspect were arrested. Alexander and the young police officer simply did what police officers do several times a day: "They looked after the right...".
