ETA placed a bomb with great explosive power in the toilets of the Rolando Cafeteria in Madrid, near Puerta del Sol, where the General Directorate of Security was located. The explosion killed thirteen people and injured sixty others, including eleven police officers. The terrorist group used about thirty kilos of dynamite. Félix Ayuso, who was seriously injured in the explosion, died of his injuries two and a half years later.
