THE STORY
Circumstances
He was on his way to the Zumárraga police station along with six other colleagues. They were all driving along a local street when he saw two hooded individuals with submachine guns in their hands get out of a vehicle and, along with a third ETA terrorist, begin shooting at the group of police officers. José María was hit by one of the shots, which fatally wounded him.
