Josef Grůza (33)

Gendarmerie officer, born 18 April 1908, station Uherské Hradiště, Uherské Hradiště district, Moravia. He was involved in the activities of the Defence of the Nation organisation, procuring weapons and information about the activities of the occupation security bodies. He was arrested on 10 March 1941. However, even after brutal torture by the Gestapo, he did not reveal his helpers and ended up in the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he died on 15 June 1942. He has a cenotaph in the cemetery in Uherské Hradiště - Mařatice. He received the Czechoslovak War Cross 1939 in memoriam.
