THE STORY
Circumstances
He died on the morning of 11 May, struck down by a sudden illness while on his way to work.
At around 6:20 a.m., Assistant Chief Coordinator Antonio Cristalli was driving along the motorway connecting Pistoia to Montecatini to reach the local police station where he was due to start his shift from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. when, near the Pistoia Ovest toll booth, he was struck by illness. The police officer managed to pull over to the side of the road and get out of the car, but collapsed lifeless. He was immediately assisted by passing motorists and then by the 118 emergency services, but the doctors who arrived on the scene could only confirm his death.
Antonio Cristalli served in the Flying Squad of the Montecatini (PT) Police Station.
