On August 21, 2025, our colleague Simon was shot dead.
On that day, a gas station in Völklingen was robbed. The 18-year-old perpetrator managed to flee the scene. Simon and his colleague arrived at the scene and were able to apprehend the perpetrator a short time later. During the arrest, a physical altercation ensued between Simon and the perpetrator. The perpetrator was able to wrestle Simon's service weapon from him and immediately shot Simon. Simon was seriously injured and succumbed to his gunshot wounds a short time later.
It turned out that Simon was hit by six shots fired by the perpetrator. The perpetrator also shot at a police cadet who was accompanying Simon. Fortunately, he was not fatally wounded. After the perpetrator fled, another police patrol that had arrived at the scene pursued him. More shots were fired during the chase. The perpetrator was also wounded by two shots and was taken to a hospital.
