THE STORY
Circumstances
On 23 February 2026, a detachment from the CRS East regional motorcycle unit was patrolling on motorbikes along the N47 county road as part of a road safety operation in the Yonne department.
Near the village of Looze, for reasons as yet unknown, Chief Constable Frédéric Sorriaux, aged 52, lost control of his motorcycle and fell heavily onto the road.
Initially assisted by his colleagues, he was taken into critical condition by doctors from the Joigny SMUR and the Yonne fire brigade.
Despite the efforts of the medical teams, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead three hours after the accident.
