THE STORY
Circumstances of death
On October 23, 1972, while Garda MacNeill and Sergeant Michael Honeyman were conducting checks at a checkpoint in Barrack Street, Charlestown, Co. Mayo, a car approached at high speed and collided with Garda MacNeill. He died later that morning from his severe head injuries.
