THE STORY
Circumstances of death
On April 11, 1983, Sergeant McLoughlin was asleep in bed when he heard a knock on the door of Dunboyne Garda Station. Sergeant McLoughlin's home was part of the station building. Sergeant McLoughlin opened the upstairs window of his house to see who was knocking at the door. As he did so, a man fired a shot that struck Sergeant McLoughlin. He later died from his injuries.
