THE STORY
Circumstances of death
On Feb. 29, 1924, Detective Nolan was on duty at the Brunswick Garda Station. At 9:30 p.m., a man entered the station and struck fellow Nolan on the head with a hatchet. He then injured two other members of the guard. Colleague Nolan was taken to Jervis Street Hospital, where he died of his injuries on March 11, 1924. He had only been on duty for four months.
