THE STORY
Circumstances
Colleague Johann Traxler died on July 25, 1944, shot by mass murderer Georg Hamminger while on patrol on his company's motorcycle. Hamminger murdered a retired gendarme and made two attempted murders of active gendarmerie officers, committing a total of 11 murders.
